The warning is for heavy snow, amounting to eight to 12 inches.
News Center 7 spoke with shoppers trying to get their groceries before the snow starts.
Jurrie Gilkey said she’s worried she went to the store too late.
“I’m trying to get prepared. Yeah, hopefully this is my last store run because they don’t have a lot of things in there, because so many people are trying to shop,” Gilkey said.
As most people get ready to stay home for a few days, road crews are gearing up to work long shifts.
Thomas Ritchie runs Dayton’s public works department and said they’re prepared to work into Tuesday night.
“The salt is not nearly as effective. So in that situation, you kind of rely on your plows. So it’ll be a heavy plow event for us in preparation for it,” Ritchie said.
Some other cities also asked their residents to move their cars off the street, as it’ll make it easier for crews to clear the snow.
“We’re working as hard as we can. We’ve got all the trucks out. We’re covering all the routes. The crews are working around the clock,” Ritchie said.
Ritchie said they hope to get to Dayton’s side streets by Monday.
“Would be great if we could be in there Monday. Possibly could take until Tuesday. It just depends on the snowfall and when it ends,” Ritchie said.
On Friday afternoon, Ohio leaders asked everyone to stay home except for essential workers.
“All of us can control how safe we are going to be this weekend. It’s a serious time, with a serious danger. This weather can be a danger to all Ohioans all over the state,” Ohio Governor Mike DeWine said.
