When firefighters arrived, they found heavy fire coming from the front of the house, according to the City of Dayton.
In body camera video shared to the department’s social media pages, an officer can be seen knocking on windows and the back door before kicking the door open to alert the couple about the fire.
“Your porch is on fire. You gotta hurry!” he can be heard saying.
Two officers help the 68-year-old man and a 66-year-old woman out of the home.
While in the backyard, the officer kicked in the door of a detached garage to get the couple away from the smoke.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire was ruled accidental.
“The quick actions of officers likely saved two lives,” the department wrote on social media.
