RIVERSIDE — With summer officially here, people will start hitting the water.

As reported on News Center 7 at 6, Many who grew up in the area have spent time at Eastwood Lake.
Before getting near or into the water, experts say, look for signs to make sure it’s safe to do so.
“The rapids are really hard right here, so you gotta make sure that you don’t fall in or you’ll get stuck,” Bruce Rodgers said.
Rodgers grew up in Riverside, going to Eastwood Metropark often.
“This is my favorite place to come,” he said.

But he understands the dangers of being near or on the water.
News Center 7 has covered fatal drownings at Eastwood.
There are safety signs posted all over the park, trying to prevent people from getting caught in rushing water.
The MetroPark website states that paying attention to those signs is highly important.
Rodgers agrees.
“Always wear a life jacket and make sure you’ve done it before you get on rapids and things like that,” he said. “Just make sure you tell somebody where you’re at, and make sure you bring somebody with you on the spot.”
