Man shot by officer near Wright Brothers museum; Sheriff’s Office to investigate

Officers followed the man from W. Third Street to Williams Street. They confronted the man and at that time, Dayton Police Chief Kamran Afzal said an officer saw a firearm in the man’s hand.

“During that confrontation, one of our officers discharged his firearm,” Afzal said.

The man was hit and eventually taken to Miami Valley Hospital and rushed into surgery.

The man was not initially identified, but is believed to be in his 30s. Afzal suspected his condition was life-threatening, but his exact condition is not known.

As reported on News Center 7 at 5:00, Afzal said a handgun was recovered from the scene.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office was requested to investigate both the shooting and the initial crash.

Once the investigation into the shooting is complete, Dayton Police will conduct their internal investigation.
