Cincinnati fire officials told our news partner, WCPO in Cincinnati, that they received several calls about a large fire. Firefighters found it on Interstate 71 near the Lytle Tunnel.

The semi was the only vehicle involved in the crash, according to Cincinnati Assistant Fire Chief Matt Flager.

He said the semi crashed into the tunnel wall, and the driver was trapped inside the semi’s cab.

Firefighters removed the man from the cab. He was pronounced dead at the scene, WCPO reported.

Crews extinguished the fire, which was mostly contained to the semi-crab and the front of the trailer.

Flager said that no hazardous materials were in the trailer, but the fire caused diesel fuel to spill on the road.

He added that the fire also damaged the beams of the overpass, and that the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) and a bridge engineer were heading to the scene.

I-71 northbound is closed at the Brent Spence Bridge, while I-71 southbound is shut down at Fort Washington Way, according to fire officials.

ODOT said that traffic is being diverted onto I-75 north.
