Firefighters battle vacant structure fire in Dayton

DAYTON — Firefighters battled a two-story house fire early Sunday morning near the Dayton National Cemetery.

The call came out at 7:10 a.m. to the intersection of South Gettysburg Avenue and McCall Street, according to a Montgomery County Dispatcher.

Fire officials told News Center 7 crews on scene that the call came out during a shift change, but crews were able to respond quickly due to the proximity of the fire to the fire station.

The house was fully engulfed when crews got there, but it was believed to be vacant.

Once the fire was out, Dayton police brought out a drone to further search the property.

Crews did not find anyone inside the house, according to fire officials.

No injuries were reported.

Fire officials added that if there is an unsecured vacant structure in your neighborhood, you can report it through the Dayton Delivers App, and the city will ensure the structure is secured.

News Center 7 is working to learn what the cause of the fire was and if the structure is considered a total loss.
