Police responded around 10 p.m. to a report of a man with a gun on Schrock Road, a Columbus Police spokesperson told our news partner, WBNS TV.

Sgt. James Fuqua said that reports stated that the man was “irate.”

He said that the man went inside a private club with a gun.

At some point, the man went back outside into the parking lot, where he continued to be upset, Fuqua told WBNS.

When officers arrived, the suspect still had a gun in his possession and did not drop it, according to Fuqua.

Police told the suspect to drop the gun multiple times. Several officers fired their guns at the suspect after a period, Fuqua told WNBS.

Medics transported the suspect to the hospital, where he later died. No officers were injured.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) has been asked to handle the investigation.
