UPDATE: 8 shot near Ohio festival, mayor says

TOLEDO — UPDATE @ 8:20 P.M.

Multiple people were shot near an Ohio festival late Saturday afternoon.

The Toledo Police Department said in a social media post that officers responded at 5:37 p.m. to a reported shooting near the Old West End Festival in Toledo.

When officials arrived, they found multiple victims. Medics transported them to the hospitals, according to the social media post.

Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz told CBS affiliate WTOL that it is believed that 8 people were shot. He said that all victims are expected to survive.

Witnesses told WTOL that they heard several gunshots and saw people running.

A vendor said that they saw “three people on the ground” after the shooting.

Governor Mike DeWine said in a statement that he is “deeply concerned” about what happened in Toledo on Saturday.

“I am deeply concerned about the situation in Toledo tonight. Summer festivals should be safe spaces for families to spend time together without fear of violence. Fran and I are praying for everyone impacted by the incident at the Old West End Festival, and we are confident that law enforcement will locate the suspects involved in this senseless crime.”

Police officials said that they are searching for any suspects involved in the shooting.
