CENTERVILLE — The first thing some southern Montgomery County students saw when they got to school was their principal on the roof.
She made a bet with her students that if they raised $40,000 for their school, she would sleep on the roof, and they beat the goal by thousands of dollars.
News Center 7’s Taylor Robertson stopped by Cline Elementary in Centerville and spoke with the principal, Katy Barker.

As students came into school Friday morning, they saw their principal waving them into school from the roof.
She set up camp Thursday night around 6:30 p.m. alongside school mascot Calvin the Cougar.
“Tent, air mattress, pretty high maintenance, so we had the air mattress, blanket, we had some chairs, a little kind of fireplace, ” said Barker.
Mrs. Barker told News Center 7 that every year the school’s Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) holds a Color Run Fundraiser.
The money raised helps support the school district. This year she set a goal, and if kids raised $40,000, she’d sleep on the roof.
The students went above and beyond and raised over $47,000.
“I hadn’t actually tried to even get on the roof, so I did that the other day right before on Wednesday night, and it was pretty scary, so then I was like… okay… why did I come up with this idea? But it ended up being awesome. It was the perfect night, and the kids were thrilled,” said Barker. “Our PTO is made up of the absolute best people; they give so much of their time; they’re just phenomenal, and they pretty much say yes to everything we ask for,” said Barker
With all the fun that was had at school today, the money raised goes toward the field trips, murals, budgets for even more fun for the students at Cline Elementary.
