“We just knew something happened. It involved the police. We didn’t know how serious it was and didn’t provide any details about specifically what happened in the instance,” Justin Lebrun, a parent of two middle schoolers, said.

Kettering City Schools sent News Center 7 the email that went out to families. It said in part, “We know that information and rumors about this incident are circulating among students and families. We recognize that this situation is distressing and may lead to sensitive, uncomfortable conversations at home.”

Lebrun told News Center 7 that he wanted to be better prepared to have those conversations.

“So we said, ‘Whatever you’re hearing, just try to be kind. Don’t spread rumors.’ And then we try to talk a little bit about what potentially could have happened just to kind of have a more mature conversation around the incident with them,” Lebrun said.

On Monday, News Center 7’s Kylie Bridgeman went to the district’s administration building after calling and emailing them. She was told nobody was available to comment, even in writing, because of a scheduled meeting.

Lebrun and other parents News Center 7 spoke to off camera said their children’s safety is their top priority.

“We tend to have pretty consistent conversations around serious topics with them as they go through middle school and high school, because it’s at that age you have to have it, and we want to be at the center of the conversation,” Lebrun said.

As reported on News Center 7 at 11, the people in this case are minors, and police did not say what grades they were in. Police also said it’s too early to say if charges will be filed.
