Upon arrival, crews found that a barn was on fire and had collapsed, according to New Jasper Township Fire Chief Doug McDaniel.

“Barn was on the ground when we got here,” McDaniel said.
The barn was filled with hay, sitting in the middle of a cornfield.
“We contacted additional tankers for water and manpower,” McDaniel added.
They needed more than half a dozen water tankers.
“We’re having to have heavy equipment to pull it apart so we can get to the seat of the fire, which is at the bottom of all the bales of straw and stuff in the barn,” McDaniel said.
Jefferson Township Fire Chief Rick Brooks said the surrounding cornfield was a “major concern.”
“That was something we definitely wanted to avoid today, was get this under control before it spread to the field,” Brooks added.
Fire departments are already asking people to avoid burning things, ahead of the statewide burn ban.
“Especially when it can spread to something that is standing corn or, you know, even dried out yards right now,” Brooks said.
No injuries were reported, McDaniel said.
The cause of this fire remains under investigation.
