18-year-old injured after car slams into Miami Co. home

STAUNTON TOWNSHIP — An 18-year-old was injured after a vehicle slammed into a Miami County home Friday morning.

Crews were called out to the 2200 block of State Route 202, just south of Troy, on reports of a vehicle that had hit a house around 8:45 a.m.

As shown on News Center 7 at 5:00, images from the scene showed a vehicle completely inside the living room of the home.

Michael Beck was heading down State Route 202 when something caught his eye.

“I saw the lights, and next thing I knew, I saw this. Just amazing,” Beck said. “I was shocked.”

The Miami County Sheriff’s Office said an 18-year-old woman was driving when the vehicle went off the road and crashed into the house, which was occupied at the time.

She was trapped in the vehicle. Once emergency responders were able to get her out of the vehicle, she was transported to a nearby hospital.

Her condition is unknown at this time.

No one inside the home was hurt, but the home sustained extensive structural damage.

Investigators are still working to learn the cause of the crash.

“Preliminary investigation has revealed that the female driver was involved in a prior incident earlier this morning in the City of Troy, where she reportedly left a location after expressing suicidal ideation. Investigators are actively working to determine whether the crash was intentional,” Chief Deputy Steve Lord stated.
