In a 911 call obtained by News Center 7, a neighbor told dispatchers that she saw flames and black smoke.
“There is a house fire on the street,” she said. “Their whole house is on fire.”
The caller said that two people were inside when the house was on fire.
“I see a whole big cloud of smoke coming out of the roof,” she said. “I figured they might have been burning something in the barrel or something. So, I went around there, and I could see the fire coming out.”
Shortly after calling 911, she told dispatchers what the family was doing.
“They’re literally trying to throw buckets of water and stuff on there,” the neighbor said. “They don’t understand. They don’t understand.”
News Center 7’s Malik Patterson said that the front windows are busted out. You can also see car marks on the home’s side.
Ralph Bowman, Trotwood Fire’s Public Information Officer (PIO), said firefighters saw flames upon arrival.
“They did have heavy fire and smoke coming out of the front window, the front bay window of the structure,” he said.
Bowman told Patterson that the family made it out safely. No injuries were reported.
The Red Cross has been contacted to assist the family.
Bowman also said that there are challenges with these colder temperatures.
“We’re not out of the winter months yet,” he said. “So, make sure that you have working smoke detectors, working co alarms.”
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Patterson said that there is no word on how long the family will be displaced.
