Upon arrival, firefighters found a fire inside a two-story apartment building, according to Dayton Fire officials.
In a 911 call obtained by News Center 7, the caller said the fire started in one of the back apartments.
“It’s three of us out here,” a 911 caller explained. “It’s one upstairs. I don’t know if they’re asleep or what. I’m about to try going in here and wake them up—get them out of the house.”
“Wait, hold on a second, but there’s an active fire so I wouldn’t go back in there,” a 911 dispatcher told the caller.
“Okay, yeah, okay. She out here with her baby,” the 911 caller said.
“No one...no one is inside?” 911 dispatcher asked.
“Nope. No one,” the 911 caller said.
The Red Cross assisted seven displaced people.
The apartment of origin sustained significant fire damage. The rest of the building had smoke damage, fire officials said.
An unattended candle caused the fire. It was rule accidental.
