4 ice fisherman rescued after being stranded on ice floe, USGC says

United States Coast Guard (USCG) members rescued four ice fishermen stranded on an ice floe in Lake Erie.

They received a report at 4:34 p.m. Tuesday from Catawba Island Police that four people were stranded on an ice floe off of Catawba Island, according to a social media post.

The U.S. Coast Guard Sector Detroit launched an Air Boat from Station Marblehead and a helicopter from Air Station, U.S. Coast Guard Great Lakes said on Facebook.

The STA Marblehead crew rescued three people at 5:37 p.m. and the Catawba Island Fire crew rescued one from the ice floe.

CBS affiliate WTOL TV in Toledo reports that the four people rescued were ice fishermen about a mile offshore.

The helicopter flew across the shoreline and found no other ice fishermen were in distress.
