2 men in custody after road rage incident leads to shots being fired at Vandalia gas station

VANDALIA — Two men are in custody, and one person was hospitalized after shots were fired at a Vandalia gas station on Saturday morning.

Shortly after 11:30 a.m., crews were dispatched to the Speedway at 830 East National Road on reports of shots fired, according to a Vandalia Police and Fire Dispatcher.

Officers told News Center 7 crews on scene that this started as a road rage incident in the parking lot of the gas station.

Someone fired a bullet through the back windshield of a white truck, but it did not strike either of the two occupants in the vehicle.

One person standing outside the vehicle was clipped by the mirror of the truck. They were taken to a local hospital for their injury.

Two men were detained and are being booked into jail, according to police on scene.

Their identities have not been released.

News Center 7 crews on scene saw the gas station parking lot blocked off by police tape, and several Vandalia police cruisers in the lot for several hours.
