Troy Police Chief retiring on August 7

TROY, Ohio — The City of Troy’s police chief will be retiring on August 7.

After 38 years on the Troy Police Department, Chief Chuck Phelps will be retiring as the city’s top cop.

Phelps made the announcement at a recent city council meeting.

The department has over 40 employees that are sworn officers and civilian staff.

Phelps said the day after he retires, Capt. Shawn McKinny will assume the role of police chief. McKinney is a graduate of the FBI Academy.

McKinney said he’s excited about the opportunity to lead the police department, which has been a career goal for him.
