Sheriff’s office: Officers shoot, kill 2 suspects near Columbus

KNOX COUNTY — Two suspects are dead after officers responded to a shots fired call in Knox County Friday night, according to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.

Friday night just before midnight, shots were fired at a car from a property on Gilchrest Road. The shots were believed to be fired from at least two people, Captain Jay Sheffer with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office said during a press conference.

Around 9 a.m., the suspects were traveling in what Sheffer described a side-by-side vehicle when officers attempted to stop the suspects.

This is when Sheffer said this is when the officer-involved shooting happened. He did not provide details about how many officers were involved or how many shots were fired.

Sheffer added that two additional people were taken out of the house by law enforcement. One before the shooting and one afterward.

He did not say whether these people were suspects or not.

Residents in the area of Monroe Mills Road and Gilchrist Road between Harding and Danville-Amity were initially advised to shelter in place, but that advisory has since been lifted, according to our news partners at WBNS. Everyone is asked to avoid the area until further notice.

No officers were injured during the shooting, according to Sheffer.

The shooting is under investigation by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
