PIQUA — A Piqua screen printing and promotional product company is repurposing misprinted and overstocked T-shirts into washable masks, and is hiring people to man the sewing machines.
Atlantis Sportswear took a delivery this evening of 11 industrial sewing machines and has production capabilities of 20,000 units a day.
"We're looking to go to 65 employees here at Atlantis to 100 employees, so to jump like that on a new project, I mean it's just great for our community and for the people and for the workers," Clark Manson said.
The company is also looking for individuals to sew from home.
Congressman Warren Davidson of Troy visited Atlantis Sportswear this afternoon thanking employees for what they are doing to help protect Americans with masks.
“Find a way to fight and win, that’s what America’s all about. And we might have to work differently, but we’re going to get back to work, we’re going to do it safely and we’re going to keep making America the world’s land of opportunity,” Congressman Warren Davidson said.
Atlantis is a week into making masks and have hit the 40,000 mark in their production. The project orders are expected to reach into the millions.
