What is the best type of ice-melt to use on your driveway?

Miami Valley — Shovel, salt, a chemical mixture, or even kitty litter,  there are many ways to clear your driveway of snow and ice.

If you are looking for a bargain ice-melt, sodium chloride/rock salt is your best bet, but it can damage your driveway and plants, and is also toxic for pets, according to Consumer Reports.
