Spanish tops Ohioans’ list of most popular languages to learn, study finds

Spanish was reportedly the most popular language to learn as a second language in Ohio.

A study by Writing Tips analyzed the number of average monthly Google searches that sought out key phrases indicative of learning a new language.

Spanish was the most searched for language under these measurements.

The language was spoken by 534 million people and the official language of 21 countries, according to a spokesperson for Writing Tips.

Almost 13 percent of Americans spoke the language and was the second most spoken language in the country, the spokesperson continued.

About 240,000 people in Ohio spoke the language at home, a study by Statistical Atlas reported.

Japanese took the second spot.

With approximately 128 million speakers, it was the ninth most spoken language in the world, the spokesperson said.

German placed third in the survey.

German was the 11th most spoken language in the world with around 155 million speaking German, the spokesperson said.

About 48,000 spoke it at home, second only to Spanish in Ohio, Statistical Atlas reported.
