DAYTON — One year ago today, Russia began its invasion of Ukraine, triggering the deadliest conflict in Europe since World War II.
This morning, people from across the world are showing their support and solidarity for Ukraine, including right here in Dayton.
A rally is planned at Courthouse Square in Dayton around 6:00 p.m., with the Ukrainian Society of Greater Dayton organizing the event.

The Ukrainian society started nearly 40 years ago to promote the culture and connect Ukrainians in Dayton.
News Center 7′s Xavier Hershovitz spoke with board member Maria Steffee, and she says there’s not a day that goes by where she doesn’t think about the Ukrainians on the front lines of this war.
“It’s sort of impossible to live in a constant state of crisis because eventually the psyche just gets tired of it. But Ukrainian people don’t have a choice,” Steffee told News Center 7. “They have made this stage of crisis their everyday life. And just because somebody is not crying for help on your screen 24/7, it does not mean that the need has gone away. It only means it is impossible to cry 24/7.”
Now and during the event tonight, they will be taking donations that they’ll send directly to Ukraine.
