1 hospitalized after home explosion in Shelby County

SHELBY COUNTY — One person is hospitalized after a house exploded in Shelby County Saturday afternoon.

Around 12:30 p.m. multiple Shelby County fire crews were called to the 15000 block of Miami Shelby Road to reports of an explosion in a home.

“The victim was taken to Kettering Health Piqua,” said Anthony Bensman, Fletcher Volunteer Fire Department. “It did not appear to suffer life-threatening injuries.”

Sidney medics took one person to the hospital, dispatchers confirmed.

He said the victim was also a retired Fletcher firefighter.

Bensman said there was no actual fire in the house following the explosion. There was a little smoldering.

The state fire marshal’s office is investigating the cause of the explosion.
