UPDATE: Motorcyclist killed in overnight crash in Dayton identified; Police seek driver who fled scene

DAYTON — Dayton police are asking for the public’s help to locate the driver of an SUV who hit and killed a motorcyclist early Tuesday morning.

The crash was reported in the 3200 block of Oakridge Drive, near North Gettysburg Avenue just after midnight, according to dispatch records.

Franklin Jones, 37, of Dayton, died from his injuries on the scene, Dayton police Sgt. Gordon Cairns said.

The driver of a Jeep SUV, believed to be Lonnie Harvson II, 60, ran from the scene after the crash and police are continuing to look for him, police said in a statement.

Cairns said Jones was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Other contributing factors in the crash were still under investigation.
