MLK Day events planned across the Miami Valley

The Miami Valley will host a series of events that will acknowledge and celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s work and leadership during the Civil Rights Movement.

Below you’ll find several local events planned for Monday that celebrates his legacy.

Beavercreek MLK Day Food Donation Drive

The Mall at Fairfield Commons will be hosting a Food Donation Drive to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the impact of his activism.

Date: Monday, Jan. 18

Time: 11:00 A.M. - 7:00 P.M.

Place: Main Entrance of the Fairfield Commons Mall.


Central State University Service Project

Central State University will be holding a Community Service and Engagement Project where they will be honoring Charles Young.

Charles Young was the third African American to graduate from the United States Military Academy.

Date: Monday, Jan. 18

Time: 10:30 A.M. - Noon

Huber Heights Unity Walk

The city of Huber Heights and the Huber Heights Culture and Diversity Citizen Action Commission will be hosting the second annual MLK Unity Walk.

Masks are required and social distancing guidelines will be in effect.

Date: Monday, Jan. 18

Time: 10:00 A.M. - 11:30 A.M.

Place: 6100 Brandt Pike, Huber Heights


Martin Luther King Jr. Dayton March

The march will start on West Third St. at Drew Health Center and will end at the Paul Lawrence Dunbar Park by the Third Street bridge. The New Black Panther Party and Street Souljahz will be hosting the event.

Date: Monday, Jan. 18

Time: March from 2 p.m. - 4p.m.

Place: West Third Street at Drew Health Center


UD Virtual Ceremony

The University of Dayton will host a virtual march and wreath-laying ceremony. The event will be live streamed from their monument on campus commemorating the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s visit to campus in 1964.

The Plaza Theatre Screening of “MLK\FBI” film

The Plaza Theatre will be hosting screenings of MLK\FBI film, which is a 2020 documentary. Masks are to be worn at all times unless consuming food or drink.

Time: 3:30 P.M. and 7 P.M>

Place: 33 South Main Street, Miamisburg

Cost: $5 per person


Ambassador Leadership Training

The Dayton Public Schools Office for Males of Color will be hosting the first Martin Luther King Ambassador Leadership Training.
