HARRISON TWP. — A Warren County man injured in a crash earlier this month died from his injuries this week, according to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.
>>PREVIOUS REPORT: Reports: At least 2 injured after vehicle takes off from deputy, crashes in Harrison Twp.
William Thomas, 38, of Waynesville was identified as the driver initially injured in the crash at Needmore and Wagner Ford roads March 5, Montgomery County Coroner Dr. Kent Harsbarger said Friday.
Thomas was hospitalized after the crash but died from his injuries March 16, Harshbarger said. His cause of death was blunt force trauma and it was ruled an accident.
Thomas was driving a van traveling east on Needmore Road when he ran a red light at the Harrison Twp. intersection, a Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office crash report indicates. The van crashed into an SUV traveling south on Wagner Ford Road, sending the van into a car lot, and damaged several vehicles.
Moments before the crash a deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the van that Thomas was driving around 5:30 a.m. March 5, initial reports indicated. However the van refused to stop and continued on Needmore Road. Moments later the deputy reported the van had been involved in the crash.
