As reported on News Center 7 at 5 p.m., dozens of people spent hours in line outside of a new chicken salad restaurant in Centerville this morning.

Tywanda Henderson, from Harrison Township, had planned to meet at the new Centerville restaurant with a friend, but that friend never showed up.

It didn’t stop Henderson from making tons of new ones as she and dozens of other people lined up outside the new Chicken Salad Chick.

“Something new. We’re gonna try and see what it’s like,” Henderson said.

Some people said they skipped work, others got up early, and one woman got to the restaurant at 8:30 yesterday morning to secure her place in line.

“I know some people are gonna watch this story and they’re gonna say, Are these people nuts? We are not crazy! We just wanna have fun and enjoy free stuff,” Henderson said.

The first 100 people in line got a free scoop of chicken salad once a week for a year.

Hannah Verdun, the marketing manager with Chicken Salad Chick said that the free promotion has generated a lot of excitement.

“They love chicken salad. We have a great product, so it’s worth it to them to come out, even in the cold weather and the rain,” Verdun said.

The Centerville location is the chain’s first location in the Dayton area.

It comes to town at a time when many chain restaurants have closed.

In the last few months, News Center 7 has reported on TGI Friday’s, Wendy’s, and Frisch’s Big Boy all closing several locations across the Miami Valley.

“We’re so excited to be here,” Verdun said.

Their focus is on making their mark on the Dayton area.

“It seems like it’s going to be a pretty nice place. they’re very friendly, they’re happy. Come see what’s going on out here!” Henderson said.
