NEW CARLISLE — A firefighter was taken to the hospital after a house fire in New Carlisle Sunday morning.

Crews were called to battle the fire in the 600 block of Bowser Street around 9:30 a.m.

Upon arrival, crews saw heavy fire showing from the back of a one-story home, according to Bethel Twp. Fire Chief Jacob King.

One firefighter was taken to Miami Valley Hospital as a result of materials falling down in the house while crews were fighting the fire. The firefighter is in stable condition and “in good spirits,” King said.

There were two adults and two children living in the home who all made it out safely, according to King.

King says there were animals in the home that did not survive.

The home is believed to be a total loss due to the damage, and the Red Cross has been contacted to assist the family, according to King.

Mutual aid from multiple fire departments was requested to help extinguish the fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation at this time.
