Woman in critical condition after crashing into school bus carrying students in Darke County

An initial investigation revealed that a green 2013 Honda Fit, driven by 26-year-old Amanda Storer, of Celina, was going north on US Route 127 when she crossed over the centerline and hit a Greenville City Schools bus head-on. The impact caused both vehicles to hit a guardrail.

As reported on News Center 7 at 5:00, Superintendent Julie Jones said the bus driver tried to veer to avoid the crash.

Jones said eight students were on the bus, which was on its way to Greenville Elementary School at the time of the crash.

“While there were no injuries reported on scene by those on the bus, the bus driver and two students opted to go to the hospital for precautionary measures,” Jones said.

Storer was trapped in her car and had to be extricated.

“It took the fire department quite some time to get her removed,” Sergeant Tony Royer, of the Darke County Sheriff’s Office, said.

She was then flown to Miami Valley Hospital. In an update sent Friday afternoon, deputies said she is in critical condition.

Royer told News Center 7 that he’s seen accidents like this in the county all too often.

“We have accidents in Darke County way too often. Whether it’s driver inattention, we’re on our phones, doing things we shouldn’t be doing, and just quite failing to pay attention is probably 95 percent of the reason we have these accidents in this county,” Royer said.

The crash remains under investigation.
