Community to voice opinion on plan to bring new paper recycling plant to Montgomery County

MONTGOMERY COUNTY — Today, people will get the chance to voice their opinions on the plan for a paper recycling plant that would bring hundreds of jobs to the Miami Valley.

As reported on News Center 7 Daybreak, there’s a split reaction to the potential plant coming to Dayton, but the biggest concern is how close it would be to Trotwood.

SAICA, which is based in Spain, wants to bring the nearly $600 million facility to Dayton. This would create 200 jobs.

Residents said they liked the idea of the development in the area, but dozens of people expressed their concerns about what it could do to the air and the water is the area.

Trotwood Mayor Yvette Page said many residents use well water near the project site.

SAICA’s project director Juan-Antonio Miller talked about their use of chemicals.

“We don’t use PFAs. We have never and we are not going to. This is very important,” Miller said.

SAICA will host a meeting at Dayton City Hall at 4:30 p.m. to get community feedback, anyone is allowed to attend.
