MONTGOMERY COUNTY — Seven people were taken into police custody after a chase in Montgomery County on Thursday.

A Dayton police sergeant told News Center 7 that the chase started after an officer tried to stop a stolen black SUV.
Authorities in the area were working on a violence reduction initiative at the time.

As the SUV sped away, an Ohio State Highway Patrol helicopter started tracking it.
The exact time and location where the chase started weren’t immediately available.
The sergeant said officers in cruisers were not chasing the vehicle.
About 10 minutes into the chase, troopers in the helicopter noticed the SUV was stopped while trying to get onto State Route 4 from Harshman Road.
It is unclear what caused the vehicle to become disabled, the sergeant said.
Seven people got out of the SUV and ran; however, authorities quickly responded and were able to take them all into custody.
While searching the vehicle, officers found four guns inside. One of which had a switch attached.
One of the guns was confirmed to be stolen, the sergeant added.
News Center 7 crews on scene watched as the black SUV was towed away.
