RANDOLPH COUNTY, Ind. — A man is dead after deputies returned fire when he shot at them in Randolph County Tuesday afternoon.
Just before 5 p.m. deputies from the Randolph County Sherriff’s Office were called to reports of an overdose in the 4000 block of East Elm Street in Union City, according to a media release.
When deputies arrived on scene they were told by family members that the man left the scene.

Deputies searched and found the man around 5:17 p.m. in New Pittsburgh.
Within a minute of making contact with the man deputies said that he took out a handgun and fired a round at them.
The two deputies, identities as Sergeant Jeffrey Miller and Deputy Kevin Kouns, returned fire hitting the suspect at least once.
Medical aid was immediately provided to the suspect, identified as 19-year-old Brayden Daniel Barnhouse, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The two deputies will be placed on administrative leave until an investigation is completed by the Randolph County Prosecutor’s Office, according to the media release.
