Matthew Ogburn Jr. appeared in Dayton Municipal Court Monday afternoon and remains in the Montgomery County Jail, online records show.

Dayton police said Ogburn was “carelessly handling a loaded firearm” when the gun discharged. The bullet went through Ogburn’s hand and then hit Alexander.

Aiden Alexander, also 18, was the second person injured in the shooting and later died from his injuries, according to Montgomery County Coroner Dr. Kent Harshbarger.

A Dayton police report showed that nearly 800 grams of suspected drugs were seized in the investigation. The type of drug was not specified in the report.
