COLUMBUS — Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine said an order will be issued later this week that will outline how schools will report COVID-19 cases.

DeWine discussed the order during Tuesday’s coronavirus briefing, saying the order was not yet complete, but it will be soon. As a part of the order, the Ohio Department of Health will issued a report once a week on COVID-19 cases in schools, DeWine said.
In the Miami Valley, multiple school districts have reported positive cases involving students and employees since classes have resumed.
The goals of the order, when it is complete, is to ensure three things, DeWine said. That parents are notified if their kids have been in contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19; Parents are notified if someone in their child’s building is COVID-19 positive; And the public is aware of cases in their local districts, DeWine said.
- Russia Local Schools suspended in-person classes and extracurricular activities for two weeks on Monday after rising case numbers in the district.
- Carlisle Local Schools announced five employees tested positive for COVID-19 last week
- An Oakwood High School student tested positive last week. A teammate on the girl’s tennis team was asked to self-quarantine after coming into close contact with the student.
- A student at Vandalia-Butler High School also reported a positive test last week during the first week back to school in that district.
