13-year-old arrested after stabbing her father over a cell phone in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD — UPDATE 8/5 @ 3:30 p.m.:

The teenager accused of stabbing her father was taken to Clark County Juvenile Detention Center and charged with one count of Domestic Violence and one count of Felonious Assault.

Springfield City Police Dispatch got word around 5:55 p.m. on August 4 that a man had been stabbed in the 1000 block of East Main Street in Springfield.

The victim, Clarence Q. Fitzgerald drove himself to Springfield Regional Medical Center.

Fitzgerald’s girlfriend, Rasheema D. Barnes, told police she was in her bedroom because she did not want to hear the argument which is alleged to have been over an iPhone. She was upstairs for no more than three minutes when she heard Fitzgerald yelling.

Barnes went downstairs to find him stabbed and bleeding.

Fitzgerald told police his 13-year-old daughter became disrespectful toward him. He told her that if she talked back, he would slap her.

His daughter said that if he slapped her, she would stab him.

Fitzgerald told police he began talking to his daughter and she talked back. He then slapped her with an open hand.

His daughter proceeded to stab her father before fleeing on foot.

The residence was searched and a stainless steel knife with blood on it was found on the floor in the front living room.

The 13-year-old was found at another nearby residence and immediately stood up and placed her hands behind her back.

A court date has not yet been determined.

FIRST REPORT 8/4 @ 11 a.m.:

A teenager is in detention on charges accusing her of stabbing her father Tuesday evening during argument over an iPhone, Springfield police said.

Police were dispatched to an address in the 1000 block of East Main Street just before 6 p.m. on a reported stabbing involving a juvenile and an adult.

Police located the girl, suspected of stabbing her father in the back when he took the phone from her, at a house a few blocks away in the 200 block of Glenn Avenue, police said.

She was taken into custody pending the formal filing of delinquency by reason of domestic violence and delinquency by reason of felonious assault charges, according to police.

The father’s injury was not believed to be life-threatening. He was taken to Miami Valley Hospital.
