Pregnant woman hit by a vehicle in Dayton; life-threatening injuries reported, police say

DAYTON — Police are looking for the driver who hit a pregnant woman on Willowwood Drive Tuesday night, Dayton Police Lt. Steven Bauer said.

Both victims remain in Miami Valley Hospital. Their conditions were not known but the fetus is believed to have suffered life-threatening injuries.

Two callers to Montgomery County 9-1-1 said the woman was attending a vigil for someone who had been shot earlier in the day when a car hit her.

“A woman just hit a woman at a vigil!” one of the callers said in audio recording WHIO obtained.

The caller said she didn’t know whether the woman had been shot. “She’s laying on the ground. She’s bleeding!”

Police were dispatched to an address on Willowwood Drive about 6 p.m. on a shots fired call associated with the Shot Spotter detection system, but while on the way were received the report about the person hit by a vehicle, the lieutenant said.

The woman’s condition is not known.

Bauer said police have an idea about who they are looking for regarding the accident.

Dayton homicide detectives and a police evidence crew were called to Willowwood Drive, which has been reopened to traffic.
