DAYTON — Dozens of people watched as one of the Carillon Park eaglets took its first flight Thursday.
Eagle Expert Jim Weller described Prop’s first flight by saying, “crash, bang, boom!”

In a Facebook post, Weller said the young bird hit trees and branches on its first flight. Then it stayed in the grass for 20 minutes. Eventually it flew 100 feet and landed successfully on a low tree limb.
Meanwhile, eagle parents Orv and Willa, kept Prop’s sibling, Rudder, occupied in the nest with food.
Weller thinks Rudder will take its first flight Friday.
The eaglets hatched in March. Right now the only way to determine their sexes is with a blood test.
This is the third year in a row Orv and Willa have hatched two eaglets.
