It was a stormy end to April with Dayton breaking a daily rainfall record on Friday the 28th.
Many areas across the Miami Valley picked up 2 to 3 inches of rain with some areas receiving nearly 4 inches.
This has caused many rivers and streams across the area to fill with high water being reported in some spots along the Great Miami River. Water has come up over the banks near Riverscape Metro Park in downtown Dayton.
With the slow movement of the system, nearly steady rain is expected through the day Thursday with additional rain showers continuing Friday into Saturday. "Rainfall amounts are forecast by computer models to top 2 inches in many areas, with some spots possibly picking up close to 3 inches" Elwell said. "This will likely lead to some flooding along the Great Miami River and some of the tributaries."
Storm Center 7 Chief Meteorologist Eric Elwell says another slow-moving storm system is forecast to lift into the Miami Valley late Wednesday night and bring widespread rainfall to the area by Thursday morning.
The ground remains quite saturated from recent rain and it won't take much additional rainfall to lead to high water problems in flood-prone areas by the end of the week.
Those in flood-prone areas should monitor local water levels and be prepared to seek higher ground if flooding looks imminent or warnings are issued.
