Clark Co. woman identified as victim of deadly head-on crash near South Charleston

CLARK COUNTY — State troopers identified a Clark County woman as the victim of a deadly crash involving a semitrailer near South Charleston Thursday morning.

Katrina Yates, 33, of South Charleston was identified as the victim killed in the crash on South Charleston Pike, reported around 7:50 a.m. Thursday, state troopers said in a media release.

The driver of the semi, identified as Barry Funk, 45, of Jamestown was taken to Greene Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Yates was the driver of a Ford SUV that was traveling north on South Charleston Pike when she drove across the centerline and crashed into a semitrailer, investigators said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash shut down South Charleston Pike for four hours before reopening around noon.

Additional details, including potential factors in the crash, were not released.
