CINCINNATI — The University of Cincinnati has named Scott Satterfield as its next head football coach, according to our news partner WCPO in Cincinnati.

He has agreed to a six-year deal to coach the Bearcats, according to ESPN College Football senior writer Pete Thamel. The deal reportedly came together late Sunday night, WCPO reports.
UC reportedly bought out Satterfield’s contract with the Cardinals for $3.5 million, according to Justin Williams of the Athletic.
Satterfield coached four years at Louisville where he went 25-24 and his teams appeared in two bowl games. Before arriving at Louisville, he was head coach at Appalachian State for five seasons, going 47-16.
“Scott Satterfield is a proven winner, a relentless competitor and a culture builder,” UC Athletic Director John Cunningham said in a statement. “He’s an innovative offensive mind and a leader who develops men on and off the field. He’s the perfect fit to grow this program and lead us into the Big 12 next season and beyond.”

Satterfield replaces Luke Fickell who left UC to take the head coaching job at Wisconsin and is excited about the opportunity to coach the Bearcats.
“I am honored to be the next head coach at the University of Cincinnati and am looking forward to building on the winning tradition this program has had over the last 20 years,” Satterfield said in a statement. “I’m excited to take Cincinnati into the Big 12 this fall and ready to compete for championships. I’m most looking forward to meeting the current team and beginning to build relationships with these young men. We will hit the ground running today. Go Bearcats!”
Cincinnati will play Louisville in an upcoming bowl game at Fenway Park in Boston on December 17. It is a renewal of the “Keg of Nails” rivalry that used to exist in the team’s annual game against each other.
The two schools have not faced each in other since 2013 when both schools were members of the American Athletic Conference. Louisville left for the ACC in 2014.
Both Cincinnati and Louisville were members of Conference USA from 1995 to 2005 before joining the Big East Conference from 2005-2013.
The official announce takes place Monday afternoon at Fifth Third Arena.
