The bowl game renewed the two school’s longstanding rivalry, the Battle for the Keg of Nails. Their last meeting was back in 2013 when they both were members of the American Athletic Conference.

The Bearcats lead the overall series, 30-22-1, but Louisville has won the last two meetings.

The Cardinals had a pair of 100-yard rushers. Maurice Taylor ran for 160 yards while Jawhar Jodan had 115 yards and two scores. The Bearcats were held to 127 yards of total offense.

Cincinnati was coached by interim head coach Kerry Combs after Luke Fickell left to take the head coaching job at Wisconsin.

UC named former Louisville head coach, Scott Satterfield, as its new football coach.

The Bearcats end the season with a 9-4 record.
