DAYTON — The Dayton Flyers wrapped up the 2021-22 regular season beating the Davidson Wildcats, 82-76, Saturday afternoon at the UD Arena.
In a game that was close throughout, Koby Brea’s three-pointer put UD ahead, 78-76, with 43 seconds to play.
Kobe Elvis and R.J. Blakney each made two free throws in the final 14 seconds to seal the game. DaRon Holmes II led the Flyers with 20 points while Koby Brea had 18 off the bench. Kobe Elvis had 11 points and six assists while Malachi Smith and Mustapha Amzil each scored nine points, Smith also dished out six assists. The victory also marked career win 100 for men’s basketball head coach, Anthony Grant, at UD.
Dayton improves to 22-9 overall and finishes 14-4 in the Atlantic 10.

Both teams shot well throughout the game. UD made 55 percent of their shots from the field (28-51), including 66 percent in the second half. Davidson shot 49 percent from the floor (26-53), making 11 three-pointers and made 52 percent of their shots in the second half. The Flyers outrebounded Davidson, 31-26.
The Wildcats led, 35-34, at halftime after three free throws by Foster Loyer. They pushed it out to 50-45, on a three by Loyer with 14:12 to play but Brea buried a pair of treys to put the Flyers ahead, 55-54. Dayton extended it to 59-54 but Davidson scored eight straight points to go back on top, 62-59. UD responded with a three-pointer by Camara and layup by Brea to reclaim the advantage, 64-62, with 6:22 left.
The Flyers led, 71-65, but Davidson got a free throw by Sam Mennega and three by Lee to cut it two points, 71-69. Dayton was ahead, 75-73, but Loyer was fouled on a three-point shot with 1:05 left and made all three free throws for the Wildcats to lead, 76-75. Brea buried a three-pointer to put UD ahead for good, 78-76, with 43 seconds to play. Lee missed a three-point attempt at the other end and Amzil grabbed the miss. Elvis was fouled and made two foul shots to go up, 80-76, with 14 seconds to go. Lee missed another three and Blakney sealed the game with two more free throws.
Dayton’s next game will be Friday evening in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Championship in Washington DC. Tip-off will be at either 6 pm, pre-game coverage starts at 5 pm and Flyer Feedback follows the game on home of the Flyers; 1290 and 95-7, WHIO.
