Dayton suffers a disappointing loss at Fordham

BRONX, NY — The Dayton Flyers went on the road for the first time in the Atlantic 10 season and suffered a disappointing loss at Fordham, 55-54, at Rose Hill Gymnasium in the Bronx, NY.

Chris Austin buried a three-pointer with 24 seconds left and Ibi Watson missed a jumper as time expired. UD suffered its first loss to Fordham since 2006. The Flyers fall to 5-3 overall, 1-2 in the Atlantic 10.

Jalen Crutcher led Dayton with 14 points and Mustaphar Amzil added 10 points. UD shot 18-43 from the floor, including 4-23 from three-point range. The Rams made 60 percent of their shots in the second half, including six treys. Chris Austin led all scorers with 20 points.

Dayton’s next game will be Friday night when they travel to Davidson, NC to play the Davidson Wildcats. Tip-off is at 9 pm, pre-game coverage starts at 8:30 pm on the Home of the Flyers, AM 1290 and 95-7, WHIO. You can also hear the online here on WHIO.com.

Dayton led 27-24 at halftime and led by as much as eight points, 39-31 with over 13 minutes left in the game but the Rams led, 48-43, with 6:22 remaining, outscoring UD, 17-4. The game was tied at 50-50 but Crutcher and Elijah Weaver to give the Flyers a 54-52 lead with under a minute left but Austin’s three put Fordham ahead for good.
