DAYTON — The Dayton Flyers went on a 19-0 scoring run in the second half to take control of the game and beat the UIC Flames, 64-54, Tuesday night at the UD Arena. Toumani Camara had a double-double: 15 points and 10 rebounds while Kobe Elvis added ten points and seven boards. Daron Holmes II and R.J. Blakney each finished with nine points while Elijah Weaver added eight. UD starts the 2021-22 season with a 1-0 record.

The Flyers led by as much as 10 points in the first half, including 23-13 with 7:30 left until halftime. But the Flames went on a 11-0 run to go ahead, 24-23. Weaver scored to put Dayton up, 25-24. UIC ended the first half scoring eight straight points including two straight three-pointers by Zion Griffin to take a 32-25 halftime lead.
UD got within one point to start the second half, 34-33, but the Flames outscored the Flyers, 12-4, to open up a 46-37 advantage with 10:44 remaining. Dayton got a layup by Camara and trey by Elvis to get within four, 46-42. UD made four three throws to even the score at 46 apiece and then baskets by Weaver and Daron Holmes II gave the Flyers a 50-46 lead.
Dayton followed with six more points to increase it to 56-46. Griffin’s three got UIC to within five, 56-51, but Camara’s three-point play halted any hopes of a Flames comeback.
Dayton’s next game will be Saturday, November 13th when they host UMass-Lowell at the UD Arena. Pre-game coverage begins at 5 pm, tip-off is at 6 pm on the home of the Flyers; 1290 and 95-7, WHIO.
