The Dayton Flyers easily turned back the Rhode Island Rams, 84-57, on Wednesday night to extend the nation’s longest active winning streak to 19 consecutive games.
Obi Toppin led the Flyers in scoring with 20 points in a game where UD never trailed. Jalen Crutcher chipped in with 17 points and Trey Landers posted another double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds.
Dayton is a game away from finishing the Atlantic 10 regular season schedule with an unblemished 18-0 record.
Dayton went up 46-30 at the half, after having gone on an 11-2 run to build the largest lead of the half at 17 (46-29).
Despite foul trouble in the second half -- Toppin, Crutcher and Ryan Mikesell -- the Flyers fired at a blistering 48% from the field and 40% from three.
UD shot 50% (16 of 32) from the field in the first half.
Toppin and Landers led the Flyers to the lead right away as the game began.

The No. 3 Dayton Flyers (27-2 and 16-0) return to action tonight on the road at the Rhode Island Rams (20-8 and 12-4).

The Flyers are looking to add-on to the best start in school history, including an undefeated start in conference play.

A win tonight will extend Dayton’s winning streak to 19, which would tie for the fourth-longest in school history. The last 19 game winning streak spanned the end of the 1967-68 season and into the first five games of the 1968-69 season.

Tipoff of the game from the Ryan Center in Kingston is scheduled for 9 p.m. Larry Hansgen will be joined by former Flyer Brooks Hall courtside for the call on WHIO Radio.
TV coverage of the game will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network.
Dayton will complete the regular season Saturday at 7 p.m. when the Flyers play George Washington at the University of Dayton Arena.

The Flyers have already secured the Atlantic 10 regular season title, following a win last Friday against Davidson. Dayton will be the number one seed for the Atlantic 10 Championship in Brooklyn, New York next week.

Their opponent remains undetermined, but Dayton is locked into the 12 p.m. time slot for their first game of the Championship Friday, March 13.
