WATCH: Harlem Globetrotter previews NYE show

The world-famous Harlem Globetrotters return to Wright State’s Nutter Center today, Dec. 31.

The Globetrotters are dedicating this, their 90th anniversary tour, to George “Meadowlark” Lemon (the famous Globetrotter who died Sunday at age 83) and fellow Harlem Globetrotters legend and Hall of Famer Marques Haynes, who passed away in May.

During his 24 seasons with the Globetrotters, Lemon played in more than 7,500 consecutive games, performing for popes, kings, queens, presidents and innumerable fans in nearly 100 countries around the world.

Globetrotter Scooter Christensen, in his 11th season with the team, said it’s an “unbelievable” experience to be part of the Globetrotter. He grew up watching them on TV.

“Hopefully we’re keeping his legacy alive and hopefully making him proud,” Christensen said of the death of Lemon. “We got to bring that joy to them just like he did.”
