Police initially tried to stop Jared Wehrle after seeing him putting gas in his tractor at a gas station, because there was a warrant out for his arrest, the Richmond Register reported. When police asked him to speak with them, he took off on the tractor.

Police told the Lexington Herald-Leader that they pursued Wehrle through backyards at an apartment complex, over a walking path, and as he ignored stop signs.

An arrest citation obtained by the Richmond Register said that over the course of the pursuit, Wehrle nearly hit a Berea police officer with his rear tire, and nearly ran over two cyclists on the trail he drove over.

Eventually, the tractor drove onto the golf course at Berea Golf Club. Derek Hicks had been at the golf course to watch his son practice and captured video of the chase. The video shows a line of police cars following the tractor with sirens blaring.

The chase came to an end when the tractor got stuck in a ditch on the golf course, prompting Wehrle to try to run away, the Richmond Register reported. Officers deployed Tasers and arrested Wehrle.

Officials told WKYT that the damage to the golf course is estimated at more than $1,000.

Wehrle faces a list of charges, including fleeing or evading police, wanton endangerment, resisting arrest and possession of marijuana, according to online jail records.
