LAKEWOOD, Colo. — A Colorado couple is behind bars after police said they shot and killed a dog on a Lakewood street earlier this month.

According to KDVR, Lakewood police on Thursday arrested 42-year-old Sean Andrews and 40-year-old Desiree Andrews, both of Arvada, on aggravated animal cruelty and weapons possession charges, authorities said. Desiree Andrews also faces a bond violation charge, the news outlet reported. They were both taken to the Jefferson County Jail, police said in a news release.

“Witnesses say the two appeared to be arguing when they exited the vehicle, and the female shot the dog while the male struggled with it and held it down,” read the post, which included surveillance footage from the scene. “The two immediately returned to the car and fled the scene, leaving the dog.”

The shooting occurred Aug. 1 near 12th Avenue and Teller Street, KDVR reported previously. Lakewood police received a report of gunfire about 7 a.m. and arrived to find a dead pit bull mix with bullet wounds.

Witnesses told investigators that a man and a woman parked a Chrysler 300 with Colorado tag 1681668 near the intersection and got out of the car, police wrote in a Facebook post Aug. 5.

Police are still looking for the vehicle seen in the video. If you have information about the shooting or the couple's car, call Lakewood police at 303-980-7300.
