ELMONT, N.Y. — The 152nd Belmont Stakes was delayed but the horses will run this weekend.

A shortened race is set to run Saturday because of the coronavirus pandemic after originally being scheduled for June 6. Post time is 5:42 p.m. EDT, The New York Times reported.

No spectators will be permitted at the race, but those who had planned to attend will be able to get a refund for tickets purchased, officials said.

Not only did the day of the race change, so did the length. Instead of the normal 1 1/2 miles, the horses will run 1 1/8 miles. The reason for the change -- to adjust for the schedule changes for this year’s race season, NBC Sports reported.

The race will be run hours after the end of another prestigious race - Royal Ascot in England, NBC Sports reported.

Tiz the Law is the leader in the eighth position with 6-5 odds.
