ORMOND BEACH, Fla. — A van carrying 11 people overturned Sunday morning on a Florida highway, killing three people, investigators said.
Updated 1:12 p.m. EDT March 28: The Florida Highway Patrol said a 2000 Ford van drifted off the road and overturned, WFTV reported. The roof ripped from the vehicle and the passengers were ejected.
The Volusia County Fire Department said there were 11 people inside the van. The passengers were from out of state. A 19-year-old woman, a 4-year-old girl and a third person were found beneath the van. They were pronounced dead at the scene. The other victims were taken to area hospitals. A 3-year-old victim was taken by helicopter to a hospital and is in stable condition. The identities and condition of the other victims is unknown.
Original report: The Florida Highway Patrol said the van crashed around 5:30 a.m. on Interstate 95 near Ormond Beach, WFTV reported.
An adult and child passenger were pronounced dead at the scene. The other eight victims were taken to area hospitals. Their conditions are unknown.
